Contrary to what was presented at the Waikiki Neighborhood Board meeting on May 8th, and by other people, including one of the Waikiki Board members, Jeff Apaka, this is NOT a Done Deal!
The City Council Chair and Presiding Officer said the following in an email on May 24, 2012:
"In checking with the City's department of planning and permitting (DPP), this project is in the early development stages and has not applied for any permits at this point-in-time. Eventually, this project will need a Waikiki Special District permit from the depart of planning and permitting as well as authorization from council to exceed the current height limit, but it still has many more steps that need to be taken before the project will be allowed to proceed towards construction. Therefore, contrary to what was represented at the May 8th meeting of the Waikiki Neighborhood Board — it is not a done deal."
So, there you have it. Do not be dissuaded by what these people are saying. This seems to be a tactic being used to keep people from doing anything.
