The Developers presented a "courtesy presentation" at the Waikiki Neighborhood Board meeting. This obviously was the first time anyone on the board or in the audience had seen the planned structure. A few board members and attendees expressed their disappointment and strong concerns about the orientation and size of the building. A few people asked why was it being built parallel to the ocean and not perpendicular, such as the Trump Tower, in order to minimize the loss of view plane. The reasons provided by the developers was that it would be a more pleasant view from Punchbowl, and pedestrians and people driving down Kalakaua Blvd. This seemed like a lame reason and many people in the room clapped when one of the board members told the developers how he felt about it.

The presentation on the tower begins at around 1 hour: 15 mins into the video (move the slider).
You may want to start a little before that at 1 hour: 10 mins to hear other discussions on building heights.
