Below are the latest images received from the developer in response to many letters written by people in the community. The huge “wall” that the developers intend to build is on the left side, and the more desirable “V-shaped” perpendicular building is on the right. The developers have provided no other information on the “V-shaped” design, other than these comparison photos.
From every angle, we think the “V-shaped” design is much more appealing, and it allows more sunlight onto Kuhio and Kalakaua from all directions, both morning and afternoon. But more importantly, it blocks only half of the mauka/makai view plane as compared to the huge “wall” structure the developers intend to build. If the developers (PACREP) wish to adhere to the Waikiki Special District Guidelines, then they should build the V-shaped design, but they are intent on building the wall instead.
We need to fight for our community and against the wall design, or this will be the first of many more “walls” to come.
